In recent times, we have seen a tendency of companies giving efforts to bring the theatrical experiences to hopes. Sony has recently launched a Bravia Theater U Neck Bands which are dedicated towards bringing the theatrical experiences under the comfort of the houses.
Apple has already tried to do the same with its Apple Vision Pro and it has got some good reviews from users too. With immersive video and spatial audio, there are a lot of things to explore there and it looks like theaters might even be elements of luxury in the near future. With OTT already taking over such a huge portion of the movie business and now tech companies coming forward to make it easier for the viewer to have that experience within the comfort of the home, it might be going in the same direction.
Sony’s new venture will indeed be very convenient and might be liked by viewers for the ease it will offer, but faking the actual theatrical vibe with technology might not give the same result. It looks like we are going towards a future where theaters will only be about movies, but theaters are not just about movies. The recent re-releases in India proved what cinema is meant to do for audiences. People danced during K3G songs, held each other tight during Tumbbad, rejoiced and made the whole re-release thing a festival. This is something that the viewers will miss if they get used to having mini theaters at home.
Viewers are, at the same time, not complaining about the idea but are welcoming the technology with hopes that it will only make the lives of cinephiles better.
