Tamil Superstar Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru is the first major film in Tamil to skip its theatrical release and stream online directly. The movie will be premiered on Amazon Prime Video on the 30th of this month. The movie is inspired by the life of Captain GR Gopinath, a retired Army captain, who founded the low-cost airline Air Deccan.
In an interview, the director – Sudha Kongara revealed the ordeals that the team went through. “The entire team is in a creative vacuum during the Lockdown. The movie was supposed to release in theaters months ago and the delay is taxing on all of us,” she said.
“Though we were working on the edits of Soorarai Pottru, we hardly had the old energy. we came up with the idea of Ilamai Idho Idho (one of five films that make up the upcoming anthology, Putham Pudhu Kaalai). The short made with a five-member crew and four actors brought us on to our feet,” she added.
Ilamai Idho Idho took just three days to complete and only five members were on the location at any point of time. The story is set amid the Section 144 lockdown. The team reportedly took multiple responsibilities with the director herself handling the makeup and lighting apart from directing the film.
