Akshay Kumar‘s Sooryavanshi is all set to arrive in theatres on April 2nd 2021. Since the past month, the makers of Sooryavanshi were in continuous discussions with the multi-chain exhibitors to get the best possible deal for their movie. And now it seems that the discussion has reached to a standstill with both the parties no looking to budge from their standpoint. According to reports, Sooryavanshi will be releasing on single screens and non national multiplex but might skip the nation wide exhibitor chains such as PVR, Inox, Carnival, Cinepolis etc. Also the talks for OTT release on Netflix is also in play.
Sooryavanshi has been slated to arrive in theatres since last year. And in the past year, the Rohit Shetty entertainer has gotten several offers from OTT platforms for direct to OTT release of the movie. Due for his love for big screens, Rohit Shetty didn’t entertained the streaming giants. But now the situation seems more critical as the movie cannot be delayed any further due to the losses it has incurred.
And to cover up their losses, the producers demanded some beneficiary deals from these exhibitors who on the other hand haven’t agreed on any of it. And hence, the makers have decided to release the movie on April 2nd 2021 in single screens and non national multiplexes. It seems that if no further action will be taken by the high end multiplex owners then Sooryavanshi might totally skip these chains.
To cover the reach that these nationwide multiplex chains have got, Rohit Shetty is back in talks with Netflix for the release of the movie. Reportedly, the makers are eyeing a the hybrid model of release where the movie will be releasing on theatres as well as Netflix on the same day.
Since the negotiations are still in play, time will tell whether the high end multiplex owners will give in the demands of the makers of Sooryavanshi or will they let go of a money spinner movie like Sooryavanshi. Sooryavanshi being the high octane entertainer is also a high budgeted flick and the decision to skip big multiplex chains will surely hamper their box office collections.
With April 2nd being not far away, the makers will have to decide quickly on how to approach the situation because the promotions of the movie will depend on how it will be releasing. It will be probably 2-3 days before we get to know a clearer image of the situation, but it will be interesting to see how it turns out.
