The month of October saw some substantial releases in the initial days. Big films like Vettaiyan were released that had a national impact. But then, the industry came to a halt in terms of nation-wide releases. But in the meantime, the regional industries came forward to release several films and make a good profit. With the lack of nationwide releases, the regional films were more into focus.
The Southern film industries are currently in full focus in taking advantage of this time. In the coming two weeks more than 20 regional films will be released from the Southern industry. Every week, each industry will see a minimum of two releases.
The releases include films like- Kundannoorile Kulsitha Lahala, Daya Barati, Thrayam and Palloty 90s Kids in Malayalam; Praapthi, Ellige Payana Yavudo Daari, Nasaab, Yalakunni and much awaited Bagheera in Kannada; Scene Number 62, Sevakar, Otrai Panai Maram, and highly anticipated Amaran in Tamil; C2O2, Pottel, Samudrudu and Laggam in Telugu.
The films will result in the flourishing of regional cinema. The big-budget films that have had national impact have already been getting praises nationally and internationally as well. But the regional releases will promote the regional filmmakers into making more films, further flourishing the whole industry.
But releasing so many films at one go has its own disadvantages as well. At a time, a person can watch only one film. Also, considering India, where cinema is considered a luxury, not many people can afford watching multiple films at the same point of time. In that case, one or two of these films will gain a profit and most of them will go to waste.
Though the makers are up to taking full advantage of the lack of national releases, this is making the theatres get bombarded with new films. This will be problematic in many ways.
