Comicbookmovie.com has confirmed that Jake Gyllenhaal will return to reprise his role as Mysterio in Tom Holland’s ‘Spider-man 3’ (Working title). The site couldn’t confirm if the character will be returning in the flesh or in flashbacks, so we can’t fully confirm if Gyllenhaal will actually return or not. But there have been a few reports lately stating that the actor’s body double has been spotted on (the ‘Spider-man 3’) set so there could be a very good chance that the actor has already been billed for the movie without our notice (how though?). Which is still brilliant!
One week ago, we (binged.com) speculated in an article that there might be a small chance that Sandman could be added to the list of villains joining the “Three-quel” (The new fan adopted name for Spider-man 3). And a few days later, Marvel was in talks with Thomas Haden Church to return to portray The Sandman. A couple of days ago when we speculated in another article that Mysterio might return since he wasn’t killed off – literally the next day we are getting these aforementioned Gyllenhaal reports. That’s two for two.
So for continuity’s sake and to keep this going, we think Michael Keaton will also be returning as The Vulture. The actor was iconic in ‘Spider-man: Homecoming’ and with him returning, we can finally see Marvel’s first ever Villain team-up on the big screen. We have heard multiple names for this villain group, but “Sinister Six” is their most popular one and with Jamie Foxx’s Electro, Dane DeHaan’s Hobgoblin, Alfred Molina’s Doctor Octopus, Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin set to join along with Thomas Haden Church’s Sandman and Jake Gyllenhaal’s Mysterio, this will be one incredible line-up to feature on the big screen.
We also hope Vincent D’Onofrio will also join the cast as Kingpin (or at least be asked by Marvel). With Charlie Cox coming on the movie to portray Daredevil, The Kingpin will be a brilliant villain to include in this movie, one who can work behind the scenes to manipulate both heroes and villains alike. We hope both D’Onofrio and Keaton joins this incredible line-up of actors portraying villains and we seriously can’t wait for the movie. The set release date of December 2021, seems too far off.
