The massively popular Swedish audio streaming giant Spotify has recently announced a price increase with respect to its Premium subscription offerings. The price increase is going to be as much as $2, depending on the different plans. After the price hike, Spotify Premium’s individual plan in the US will increase from $9.99 to $10.99, Premium duo plan from $12.99 to $14.99, Premium Family plan will be up from $15.99 to $16.99, and the Premium Student plan will be up from $4.99 to $5.99.
Spotify’s existing subscribers will be given a one-month grace period for the price hike implementation, but the revised subscription prices will be applicable for new subscribers with immediate effect in the US and other countries.
Interestingly, the Spotify audio streaming service, which has more than a whopping 200 million Premium subscribers, will hike the prices for the very first time since it launched its Premium service back in the year 2011. And considering the rising costs, changing landscape, competition from rival audio streaming companies like Apple music and Amazon music and the persistent need for innovation, the recent price hike by Spotify makes complete sense.
Now, the question is: Will Spotify India subscribers also have to pay more for Spotify’s premium offerings starting from now. As per the official announcement, Spotify premium prices have been hiked in many countries including US, Brazil, Canada, Australia, UK, France, Spain, Mexico, New Zealand, and Thailand, amongst others. However, India’s name hasn’t been mentioned in the list of countries where Spotify premium prices have been increased.
So, as of now, Spotify India subscribers can continue to enjoy their premium plans at the current rates only. And considering India’s extremely price sensitive market, it is unlikely that Spotify would increase subscription prices in this part of the world. Presently, Spotify India is offering Premium subscription plans namely Mini, Individual, Duo, and Family at the prices of Rs.7 per day, Rs.119 per month, Rs.149 per month, and Rs.179 per month, respectively.
