The massively popular Swedish audio streaming giant Spotify is exploring new and innovative ways to retain and increase its subscriber base. Recently, it was revealed that the audio streaming company was testing a new feature which would enable its users to create playlists using AI (Artificial Intelligence) on its platform based on the listeners’ prompts.
And now, the music streaming service Spotify is betting big on one thing which has been gaining significant popularity among audio streaming audiences: audiobooks. As per the latest update, Spotify is all set to offer its premium subscribers initially in the UK and Australia fifteen hours of free access to audiobooks in a month.
As a result, Spotify premium subscribers will be able to select from a catalogue of more than 1.5 lakh audiobooks. So now, Spotify users can enjoy more than 100 million tracks, 5 million podcasts, and over 1.5 lakh audiobooks. And in doing that, Spotify premium subscription might prove to be a more value for money proposition for existing and prospective subscribers and a one stop destination for audio enthusiasts.
As of now, the new feature will be available for Spotify users in the UK and Australia. Later, it would be made available in other countries like the US, and hopefully the Indian launch will follow soon. It’s an interesting strategy by Spotify to counter competition from rival audio streaming companies like Apple music and Amazon music. Let’s see if the decision pays good dividends in the future.
A few months back, Spotify, which has more than a whopping 200 million Premium subscribers, announced a price increase with respect to its Premium subscription offerings (excluding Indian market). Interestingly, the hike in the subscription prices was for the very first time since it launched its Premium service back in the year 2011.
As of now, Spotify India is offering Premium subscription plans namely Mini, Individual, Duo, and Family at the prices of Rs.7 per day, Rs.119 per month, Rs.149 per month, and Rs.179 per month, respectively. Moreover, you can also try Spotify Premium for free for one month.
