US streaming platform Hulu is on a hit-making spree. After the spectacular successes of shows like The Bear, A Murder At The End Of The World, Death And Other Details, Abbott Elementary, Hulu has announced its new slate for 2024 at the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour (TCA).
Among all the newly revealed titles, one show grabs instant attention for its exciting premise and stellar cast. And that is Hulu’s upcoming spy drama series ‘The Veil’. This evening, Hulu revealed the first look and release date for’ The Veil’. The spy premieres on Hulu on 30th April, 2024. Going by the premise and first looks, The Veil promises to be another hit on the way for Hulu.
Created by Oscar-nominated writer Steven Knight, and produced by FX, The Veil stars Elizabeth Moss as shrewd M16 agent Imogen Salter, who finds herself in an unusual situation with an enigmatic young woman, Adilah played by Yumna Marwan. The series hops across London, Paris and Istanbul, as the two mismatched women are compelled to journey together.
Imogen Salter (Elizabeth Moss) first meets Adilah El Idrissi when she’s posing as a British NGO worker at a refugee camp on the border of Syria and Turkey. Adilah is in a precarious situation for supposedly being an ISIS commander, when Imogen helps her escape from the region. Both are forced to journey in each other’s company despite having no love lost between them.
The Veil is not just a regular spy drama, but it also delves into the human side of spies – people who are tasked with really important things, like protecting the world, who are actual human beings, flawed and silly and fallible. In a very Thelma And Louise style, it also explores the uneasy relationship between the duo.
The official synopsis of The Veil says that it is a “thriller series about a potentially deadly game of truth and lies as two women travel from Istanbul to Paris and London, with one of them possessing a secret which the other needs to expose.”
The limited series is witty, fast-paced and exhilarating, with sharp humour adding nuance to the narrative. Besides Elisabeth Moss and Yumna Marwan, The Veil stars Dali Benssalah as Imogen’s love interest, Malik, and Josh Charles as American agent, Max.
