On paper, very few titles are as hyped as Vijay Sethupati’s Maharaja. Despite all the hype, Maharaja has been defeated by the Rajkumar Rao film Srikanth.
In terms of box office success, Srikanth had a more successful run, benefiting from the luxury of having a Bollywood banner, a vast audience, and a mass release. On the other hand, Maharaja had mediocre exposure and fewer theaters.
When Maharaja came to Netflix, it initially looked indestructible but eventually bowed down to Srikanth.
Talking about the data, Srikanth opened with a mediocre 1.6M watch hours but then boosted to 3.4M in the second week. Maharaja, though showered with love by fans, had 3.2M watch hours.
Despite Netflix’s advertisements, Maharaja didn’t have a full week run, which might be the reason behind the comparatively low numbers. Next week’s numbers might increase comparatively.
But the week ahead will be tough as Aadujeevitham will be releasing on Netflix and it will give tough competition to both Srikanth and Maharaja.
