November 2. It’s King Khan’s birthday today; and Disney Plus Hotstar has a special treat for Shah Rukh Khan fans. Disney+ Hotstar is offering SRK fans a chance to watch the first ten minutes of this year’s blockbuster film ‘Brahmastra’ on its platform, absolutely free.
What does that have to do with Shah Rukh Khan, you may ask. Well, for those who’ve still not watched Brahmastra in the theatres, the first ten minutes of the film feature the biggest cameo of this year. Yes, it is none other than Shah Rukh Khan, who plays scientist Mohan Bhargav in Brahmastra. Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo in Brahmastra is one of the most talked about elements of the film.
The name Mohan Bhargav is a throwback to Shah Rukh Khan’s character in the underrated Swades, where he played NASA scientist Mohan Bhargav. It is Brahmastra director Ayan Mukherji’s tribute to Swades. Not many know that Ayan Mukherji started his Bollywood career as an assistant director in Swades.
Disney Plus Hotstar owns the post-theatrical streaming rights for Brahmastra. The platform’s idea to leverage its hot property asset as a treat for fans on Shah Rukh Khan’s birthday is a novel marketing idea; and a nice touch, if we may say so.
Brahmastra premieres on Disney Plus Hotstar on 4th November, which is this Friday. The fantasy and superhero drama stars Amitabh Bachchan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Nagarjuna and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles, besides Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo, of course.
