Ever since news of Marvel shows on Netflix, such as Daredevil and The Punisher, leaving the streaming platform at the end of the month has surfaced, fans have been speculating on where the shows would end up. The most obvious and initial conclusion was that the shows would come to Disney+ under Marvel’s entertainment hub.
However, none of these shows appeared in the list of shows coming to the streaming platform in March. The fact that Disney+ is more family friendly in its content and these shows are R-rated, means the integration may not be straightforward. Hulu, another streaming platform owned by Disney, was also cited as a possible home for these shows. However, as of now, there has been no official communication on where and when these shows will return.
A fumble on the sign-in page for Disney+ in the US has got the conversation up and running again. The sign-in page for Disney+ in the US has five hubs – Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic. However, for a very short period of a few hours, it showed a sixth hub- Star.
The Star network is a content hub within Disney + available in few countries outside of the US. It houses television and movie content from Disney’s other subsidiaries such as 20th Century Studios and FX. This includes more mature content than that on the Disney+ hub. Disney+ also allows users to set a parental control to restrict access to Star content.
The hub was later removed from the US sign-in page. Now, this could easily be a mistake where the hub meant for another region accidently got activated in the US. Or it could also mean that Disney+ in the US is working on getting the hub live but accidentally went live. If it’s the latter, we could probably expect an announcement on Star being available to users in the US. That could set the stage for some of the R-rated Marvel shows moving out of Netflix to end up on Disney+ under the Star hub, in the US as well as other regions where Star is already available.
