Star Trek 4 writer Lindsey Anderson Beer has revealed that the fourth entry in Paramount Pictures’ rebooted Star Trek franchise is still in the works.
Beer recently talked with Collider and discussed Star Trek 4 in great detail. Despite facing big challenges, Paramount is still in the mood to produce a fourth entry.
“It’s [Star Trek 4] is still on the tracks,” Anderson Beer said. “I love that project, and it was another one that I had to hop off of to direct this movie, and that was a hard thing to do. But I love that everybody involved with that project.”
Paramount rebooted the iconic Star Trek franchise in 2009 with J. J. Abrams’ first Star Trek film. It shifted its focus to the young versions of Captain James T. Kirk and Spock and showed how they became close friends.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013) turned out to be a commercial success. However, we cannot say the same about Beyond (2016). Despite Beyond’s not-so-impressive box office performance, Paramount showed its belief in the rebooted franchise and greenlighted a fourth instalment.
Fans have dropped several plot elements on the internet that may become a part of Star Trek 4. One of them is Chris Hemsworth returning to the franchise as George Kirk via a time-travel phenomenon.
Paramount is keeping the film’s plot details under wraps. Though, we should expect Chris Pine (James T. Kirk), Karl Urban (Dr. McCoy), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), Simon Pegg (Scotty), John Cho (Sulu), and Zachary Quinto (Spock) to return in Star Trek 4. Paramount is yet to disclose the film’s release window. Stay tuned for more updates.
