Lucasfilm revealed that Wonder Woman helmer, Patty Jenkins, would direct the Rogue Squadron movie at 2020’s Disney Investor Day. It will become the third addition in the Star Wars anthology film series. However, the studio has not yet commenced its pre-production process. But it is still dead set on dispatching the project in December next year. Also, the movie is in Disney’s refurbished release state which got disclosed last month.
According to the latest reports, the author of the Rogue Squadron book series, Michael A. Stackpole, has shed some light on the upcoming Star Wars film. A recent tweet from @Jedi4Liberty (just brad) is going pretty viral. The Twitter user informed about his meeting with Stackpole and unearthed some interesting details about the movie. The prominent novelist told him that Patty Jenkins contacted him during the film’s initial developmental stage. The director is trying her best in staying as faithful to the novel series as possible.
Rumours about the upcoming Jenkins directional surfacing in 2022 got buried after the helmer decided to work on Wonder Woman 3. We know that Lucasfilm has tasted mixed responses from its previous anthology films. Rogue One (2016) was the first entry in this series. It collected more than $1 billion at the global box office. On the other hand, the standalone Han Solo project with Alden Ehrenreich as the lead bombed badly, earning only $393.2 million against its heavy budget of $275 million. The huge financial disappointment of Solo forced Kathleen Kennedy and her team to focus more on Star Wars tv shows like The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series, and many more.
Apart from Patty Jenkins’ Rogue Squadron movie, Lucasfilm is closely working with Kevin Feige to deliver a new Star Wars movie to the fans. And Loki’s creator, Michael Waldron, will serve as its screenwriter.
