The Acolyte has a lot of heat to deal with right now. It seems like the controversy surrounding the show’s creator, Leslye Headland, and the rumors of Disney and Lucasfilm trying to promote the ‘woke’ culture through the show will not end soon. But for those of you who are excited to watch the upcoming Disney+ series, we have some great news for you! Thanks to Entertainment Weekly, we now have received the first look of Dafne Keen as Jecki Lon.
As confirmed by EW, Jecki Lon (Keen) will be half-human and half-Theelin. She will be seen as a Padawan to Jedi Master Sol (played by Netflix’s Squid Game fame, Lee Jung-jae). Upon asked about the nature of Jecki’s relationship with Sol, this is what Keen replied:
“She [Jecki] thinks the absolute world of him [Sol] in a way that I think they have a very sweet relationship, but she’s much more aware of the authority difference than, for example, Obi-Wan and Anakin. She’s very much like, “No, he’s the master and I’m the Padawan and he’s perfect. And everything he says, I have to follow to the T.”
The Theelin were a sentient species in the Star Wars universe. They were instantly recognisable because of their mottled and spotted skin, brightly coloured hair, and three horns on either side of their faces. In addition, they could interbreed with humans, enabling them to give birth to hybrids like Jecki Lon. Moreover, they were well-known in the Star Wars universe for having attractive, creative, and artistic personas. Most of them worked as performers or artists.
However, the population of the Theelin drastically reduced during the final years of the Galactic Republic. The reason behind this scenario was the growing number of genetic defects in them. These genetic incompatibilities made it impossible for the Theelin to produce healthy offspring. That’s why they decided to cross-breed with Humans to preserve themselves. The Theelin’s population reached only a few million by the time the Galactic Republic fell. Pure Theelin went extinct by 10 ABY (After the Battle of Yavin).
In addition to Dafne Keen, The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Carrie-Anne Moss. It will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on June 4. Stay tuned for more updates.
