Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 has been announced by Lucasfilm. The official announcement came from the show’s executive producer, James Waugh, at the recent Star Wars Celebration event in Tokyo.
Waugh revealed that three storylines from Season 1 — “The Duel,” “The Ninth Jedi,” and “The Village Bride” — will continue in the upcoming Season 3. The third volume will feature a total of nine short episodes.
Moreover, the third season of Star Wars: Visions will arrive on Disney+ on October 29. Indian viewers should expect it to drop on JioHotstar the same day.
Waugh also announced an exciting shift for Visions under the new Star Wars: Visions Presents banner. This initiative will allow creators to develop more expansive narratives, moving beyond the shorter format of standard Visions episodes. The first project under this banner will be a standalone spinoff series based on “The Ninth Jedi,” slated for release in 2026.
Yup, you read that right! Lucasfilm is all set to drop a full-length Star Wars anime series. And we’re getting it before GTA 6! Wow!
Kenji Kamiyama, director of the original “The Ninth Jedi” short (and also the helmer of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim), will return to oversee the creation of the new limited anime series. Excitingly, fans won’t have to wait until 2026 to revisit “The Ninth Jedi,” as Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 will include a follow-up episode that acts as a bridge to the upcoming series.
Now, back to Volume 3 — the new installment will feature diverse stories and animation styles. Polygon Pictures’ “The Bird of Paradise” blends Japanese spirituality with a painterly aesthetic. Studio Trigger’s “The Smuggler” is an action-comedy following a Han Solo-esque female smuggler on alien worlds inspired by Earth. Studio WIT’s “The Bounty Hunters” is a buddy comedy centred around a shady offer and two unlikely bounty hunters.
Project Studio Q’s “The Song of Four Wings” involves a princess, her R2 unit, and plenty of mechs — including AT-ATs rising like zombies and the R2 unit transforming into a jetpack. Finally, David Production and legendary animator Shinya Ohira present “Black,” a visually stunning short exploring the inner lives of stormtroopers.
Both previous volumes of Star Wars: Visions performed exceptionally well, both critically and with audiences. Volume 1 premiered in 2021 and earned a ‘fresh’ 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Volume 2 (released in 2023) hit a flawless 100% RT score. Stay tuned for more updates!
