Stella Meghie has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as she will direct multiple episodes of the Wonder Man Disney+ series, starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. Deadline first broke the news and revealed that Marvel had no comment at this time.
Meghie will reportedly helm multiple episodes of the series along with Destin Daniel Cretton. Andrew Guest is serving as the show’s writer. Cretton is also co-executively producing the series with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
Wonder Man made his debut in Marvel Comics in 1964 via The Avengers #9, created by the trio of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Don Heck. His alter-ego, Simon Williams, is the son of a wealthy industrialist, Sanford Williams, who is also the owner of Williams Innovations. After his father’s death, he receives control of his father’s munitions factory.
However, Simon’s life turns upside down after his company faces strong competition from Tony Stark’s company, Stark Industries. After following the advice of his brother Eric, he embezzles funds from his company but gets caught and locked up in prison. He starts thinking that Stark is responsible for putting him in this terrible situation. This scenario forces him to shake hands with Baron Zemo and he gets out of jail soon. They together plan to infiltrate the Avengers headquarters. However, Simon later becomes a part of the superhero faction.
Stella Meghie is prominent for her work in ‘Jean of the Joneses’, ‘Everything, Everything’, ‘The Weekend’, and ‘The Photograph’. She is co-executively produced Naomi Ackie’s ‘Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance With Somebody’. Marvel is yet to reveal the official release date of its upcoming Disney+ series, Wonder Man.
