Apple recently unveiled the first look of its upcoming horror-drama miniseries ‘Lisey’s Story’ featuring Julianne Moore in the titular role.
The show is reportedly based on Stephen King’s 2006 award-winning novel of the same name and is said to contain some supernatural elements. The series is written for the screen by the acclaimed author himself, directed by Chilean filmmaker Pablo Larrain and produced by the Emmy Awards winner J.J.Abrams (the man behind the cult TV show ‘Lost’).
Said to be partially inspired by King’s own life experience, the show ostensibly revolves around a widow named Lisey Landon (played by Julianne Moore), who becomes the target of a dangerous stalker obsessed with her (now deceased) novelist husband’s (Clive Owen) work.
Moore and Owen had previously also collaborated for eminent filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron’s sci-fi flick ‘Children of Men’ (2006).
Regarding the adaptation, Stephen King had earlier said that “Lisey’s Story’ means a lot to me because its the one I love best. It’s a story about love and marriage and the creative impulse and also has a kick-ass villain in it. My idea is to be all the way in as much as possible… This is a passion project.”
The show will be spread across eight episodes. While the first two episodes will be released on Apple TV Plus on June 4, 2021, followed by the remaining six episodes, which will be out every week.
Academy award-winning actress Julianne Moore, who has time and again proved her acting prowess in films like ‘Boogie Nights’, ‘Far from Heaven’ and ‘Still Alice’, is expected to bedazzle the small screen once again in this intense on-screen adaptation.
While the show would be helmed by Pablo Larrain, who is known to deliver some hard-hitting films, had previously directed Academy Award-nominated films like ‘Jackie’ and ‘No’.
It would be interesting to see whether the creative alliance between Stephen King, Julianne Moore, Pablo Larrain, and Clive Owen is able to replicate the book’s accolades and how well will it be received by the audience. Being a diehard fan of King’s books and adaptations, we are keeping our fingers crossed.
