This Independence Day is a big one for the Hindi film industry with three big films facing off each other at the box office. While the predictions were pretty clear since the beginning, the latest public reactions further solidify it.
Going by the early reviews pouring in: ‘Stree 2’ is a blockbuster; ‘Vedaa’ has mixed reception; and ‘Khel Khel Mein’ comes out as disappointing. But these one word reviews don’t do justice to any of them and each one definitely deserves a deeper explanation. So here we go.
Let’s begin with Akshay Kumar’s ‘Khel Khel Mein’. Ever since the trailer came out there were little expectations from the film and that proved to be true after the film’s release. No doubt Akshay Kumar excels in his coming timing and acting but this time it was the wrong film.
This Mudassar Aziz directorial revolves around sensitive issues and its niche audience is high end urban population. The film has been criticised for its terrible writing, stretched out screenplay, irritating characters and overall lethargic execution. Some even went on to call it a disaster.
Let’s move on to John Abraham’s ’Vedaa’. Directed by Nikkhil Advani, this one has till now received mixed reviews. The film has garnered acclaim for exceptional performances by the cast, specifically Abraham and Sharvari; its intense first half and a gripping screenplay. The things that didn’t work for the audience was a weak climax preceded by a predictable plot line, uneven writing and average music. But overall the film has been praised for its hard hitting theme, strong action sequences and the solid first half.
And finally comes the blockbuster ‘Stree 2’. As expected the film is going great at the box office pulling in audience like a powerful magnet. Well on its way to be one of the year’s biggest Bollywood releases, ‘Stree 2’ is proving to be an excellent entertainer with a perfect blend of horror and comedy.
‘Stree 2’ is being appreciated for its tight script, fast-paced screenplay, and excellent visual effects. The performance of the cast, both lead and supporting, has been called phenomenal. Cameo appearances by Akshay Kumar and Varun Dhawan have been well-received and add to the film’s appeal. ‘Stree 2’ is expected to be a blockbuster hit and there seems to be no stopping it now.
Overall, it’s good to see such vibrant bunch of films at the box office after long. It’s natural for not all of them to be equally good or bad but it does indicate a healthy return to normalcy.
