The highly anticipated Kannada cult flick, ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana‘ released on ZEE5 early today… And it has been a nightmare so far.
The brilliant crime drama was highly anticipated on the OTT platform and many have been eagerly waiting for the feature to finally drop on ZEE5 – only for us to be left with the Kannada version, which has been mislabelled as English on ZEE5, and what’s more; no subtitles.
For a film that came out of nowhere and has the entirety of South India buzzing as a whole, the OTT platform has not done any research on the gem they have acquired and its target audience.
Well, we did sense this issue coming almost a week back. ZEE5 dropped the trailer for ‘Garuda Gamana Vrishaba Vahana’ on its official YouTube channel (and other OTT platforms), without any suitable subtitles for their target audiences.
This is a huge setback for the subscribers of the OTT platform as well as the Quality Control Team behind ZEE5. Subtitling is a problem that the OTT platform has faced since last year – the most prominent one happening to the hit Malayalam film, ‘Operation Java’.
While subtitling is an issue faced by other OTT platforms as well, ZEE5 seemed to have rectified this issue last year itself with ‘Operation Java’ – making them one of the more elite OTT platforms streaming in India.
But now, it looks like the OTT platform has made itself out to be worse than other streaming platforms – by not even bothering with subtitles, to begin with.
