It seems Jesse Armstrong is ready to move on from Succession and work on a new project for HBO. According to Deadline, the prominent British screenwriter and showrunner is currently developing an untitled movie for the network. The Emmy-winner will also serve as one of the executive producers for the project, alongside Frank Rich, producer of Veep and Succession.
The upcoming project will revolve around a group of four friends who plan to do something big amidst the turmoil of an ongoing global financial crisis. Production is expected to begin later this year.
Armstrong has worked on several notable TV shows as a writer and executive producer, including The Old Guys, Fresh Meat, Babylon, and Succession. He has also written episodes for popular shows like Bad Sugar, Veep, Black Mirror, and more. However, it was HBO’s Succession that truly transformed his career and solidified his place in Hollywood.
Succession centers around the Roy family, owners of the global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo. The patriarch, Logan Roy (Brian Cox), is an aging media mogul whose declining health sets off a fierce power struggle among his four adult children: Kendall (ambitious and initially seen as the heir apparent but plagued by self-doubt and addiction, played by Jeremy Strong), Shiv (a political operative with a sharp mind and ruthless ambition, portrayed by Sarah Snook), Roman (a rebellious and often crude playboy, played by Kieran Culkin), and Connor (estranged from the family and pursuing a political career, played by Alan Ruck). Succession has won a total of 14 Emmys and nine Golden Globes. Stay tuned for more updates.
