Sarah Snook (HBO’s Succession) has received the lead role in Adam Elliot’s upcoming stop-motion feature, Memoir of a Snail. She will voice the project’s protagonist, Grace Puddle, a lonely woman who loves reading romance novels and hoards ornamental snails. Apart from leading the film, she will also serve as its narrator.
Prominent production houses Anton (London) and Charades (Paris) are jointly producing the upcoming Adam Elliot directional.
The forthcoming animated project provides Sarah Snook with her first leading voice role in an animated feature. Snook is best known for her work in HBO’s Succession, for which she has won an Emmy Award and two Golden Globes.
Elliot is himself an Oscar-winning filmmaker. He bagged the Academy Award in 2004 for his short film, Harvey Krumpet. Memoir of a Snail marks the filmmaker’s return to stop-motion animated features, after Mary and Max (2009), which received rave reviews during its theatrical release. On Rotten Tomatoes, the film has an impressive 95% rating based on 65 reviews.
Memoir of a Snail will take place in the 1970s Australia. It will revolve around Sarah Snook’s character, whose life turns upside down after she gets separated from her twin brother, breaking her family along the way. Soon, she starts battling depression and anxiety. However, everything changes after she accepts the friendship of an elderly eccentric woman, Pinky.
Apart from Sarah Snook, Memoir of a Snail stars Kodi Smit-McPhee, Jacki Weaver, and Eric Bana. The Adam Elliot’s directional is slated to come out in 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
