Tamil Star Karthi‘s next, Sulthan is all set for a grand release on April 2nd in theaters. The movie was supposed to release the last year during the Lockdown but the pandemic played a spoilsport. Karthi in an interview said that it is not just about releasing Sulthan on OTT, he is not interested in doing OTT.
“I got quite a few offers from the OTT but I am not interested. It will be exciting if I am offered an Iranian film or an African film. What can an OTT offer me? I have the license to do anything in films. I have enough room for experimentations in theatrical releases themselves. The audience will give me that space. Then, why should I go and do it on a different platform where there is limited space?” the actor says.
Interestingly, Karthi’s brother, Suriya is one of the very few stars who have skipped the theatrical release and opt for an OTT release. He did that for his Soorarai Pottru which released directly on Amazon Prime Video. The movie is a blockbuster on OTT. Karthi, however, says releasing Soorarai Pottru on OTT is more of a call by the producer with no clarity of theatrical business during the Lockdown.
