Sunny Deol’s decision to star in direct-to-OTT films is turning heads as it stands as the Bollywood superstar’s debut for such platforms. Deol has divulged his foray into OTT releases, yes, releases, not one, but multiple. In an interview, he explained how this new direction would allow him to work for more than one medium. He speaks about the advantages, freedom and flexibility of OTT platforms.
He says “I’m doing a couple of projects for OTT, and they are not meant for the silver screen because the audience of that is niche. So, it’s best to go there (OTT). People keep watching your films on different platforms.” He also acknowledges on how OTT keeps things fresh with its variety and how open these films are to experimenting when he says “People keep watching your films on different platforms. It’s an interesting thing (medium) for actors and directors because it offers all kinds of variety and you don’t have to restrict yourself to something”.
Although he does acknowledge, it mostly depends on the writer and director, the actor seems excited about the newness and lack of restriction of the medium as he says his OTT debut would allow his viewers to watch him in more than one medium. With different, unique kinds of roles whilst attempting to garner a new audience not accustomed to his theatrical roles.
