Keke Palmer and Sacha Baron Cohen are set to lead David O. Russell’s upcoming directional project, Super Toys. According to a report from Deadline, the leading duo will play “groovy ’70s toy sales reps on a life-and-death mission to save themselves, their marriage and their live-wire 12-year-old daughter while on the road in Middle America.”
In addition to his helming duties, Russell will write the film, with Charles Roven and Matt Budman serving as producers.
The year 2022 started with a bit of turbulence for Palmer due to ‘Alice’, written and directed by Krystin Ver Linden, underperforming in terms of financial and critical reception. But her voice performance as Izzy Hawthorne in Pixar’s Lightyear received rave reviews. And the actor ended the year on a high note with Jordan Peele’s Nope.
On the other hand, the Borat fame, Sacha Baron Cohen, did not appear in any sort of project last year. His last on-screen performance was ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’ (2020). Additionally, he voiced Uncle Ugo in Pixar’s Luca (2021).
As for Russell, we all know what happened to Amsterdam, starring the likes of Margot Robbie, Christian Bale, and John David Washington. The film underperformed badly and lost more than $97 million for 20th Century Fox.
Russell’s ‘Super Toys’ stars Keke Palmer and Sacha Baron Cohen. Stay tuned for more updates.
