A lot more details about the DCU have been disclosed by James Gunn, providing more clarity on the chronological order and release dates of upcoming projects. Gunn has made it clear that he’s aiming for tighter, more interconnected continuity across his franchise—something that was lacking in the DCEU. This approach will also account for the timeline of shows and movies being released as part of the DCU.
Fans now have a general idea of DC Studios’ main continuity. A large portion of the audience is especially excited about Superman, starring David Corenswet, which is set to hit theatres on July 11. After Superman, there’s a long list of movies and TV shows lined up for the coming years.
A fan recently asked Gunn on Threads: “On HBO Max, will you create a DCU timeline like how Disney+ has one for the MCU so you can watch in chronological order?”
Here’s what Gunn replied: “As of now, it’s basically as the movies and shows come out—although of course some of these feature flashbacks—Creature Commandos, Superman, Peacemaker, Lanterns, Supergirl.”
Creature Commandos is the first official DCU project (streaming on JioHotstar for Indian viewers). It debuted in December 2024 and received strong critical praise. Now, all eyes are on Superman (July 11), which is the first major live-action release from Gunn’s DCU and will set the tone for everything that follows.
After Superman, the DCU will roll out Peacemaker Season 2, led by John Cena, which is set to premiere on August 21.
Looking closely at Gunn’s reply, it seems that Lanterns (an HBO series) will debut before Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Since the Supergirl film—starring Milly Alcock and Jason Momoa—is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026, we can likely expect Lanterns to arrive sometime in March or April 2026.
As for Mike Flanagan’s Clayface, its place in the new DCU timeline remains uncertain. We also haven’t received any updates on the release date for Waller, a series centred on Amanda Waller (played by Viola Davis).
However, we do know that Clayface is set to premiere in theatres on September 11, 2026. That likely means Waller will come out afterward, giving fans a breather and offering more focused exposition for the evolving DCU. Stay tuned for more updates.
