Many of you may have already heard this news already, Malayalam superstar, Suresh Gopi is going to play the villain in Ram Charan‘s untitled 15th film (which is currently called RC15). With Shankar directing and Dil Raju backing this Telugu feature, we expect this movie to be a huge hit in theatres. However this film makes South-Indian cinematic history when it drops in theatres for release – it will be the first film to feature Suresh Gopi in a villain role in almost three decades.
Well technically, the Vikram starrer, ‘Mahavir Karna’ is supposed to be Suresh Gopi’s first antagonist role in three decades, but the production of the big-budget blockbuster has been on hold for months, mainly due to the coronavirus pandemic. But with a long shoot and even longer post-production up ahead, this film will likely only be released by 2022. Which makes “RC15” the record-setting film.
Suresh Gopi is an actor who was known for his lead roles, particularly in action films like ‘Commisioner’, ‘Lelam’ and ‘Bharathchandran IPS’. While the actor has also played character roles in the past, he was mainly known for his in-your-face dialogue delivery and action sequences. But his films started taking a dip in the box office during the “Mollywood revolution”, and with him being out of Malayalam cinema for sometime after taking up politics for a time – he soon became a yesteryear star. He did make a couple of notable appearances, but soon became a forgotten figure in the Malayalam film industry.
However the actor made a comeback in the Dulquer Salman starrer, ‘Varane Avashyamund’. His onscreen chemistry with Shobana did not fade and both actors reignited the career in the 2020 feature. The actor is expected to appear next in an OTT release, ‘Athbudam’.
