Chinese filmmaker Chen Kaige will be helming his next project under the name of ‘Swan Song’. Swan Song will be the biopic of Soviet musician Pyotr Tchaikovsky.
The life of Tchaikovsky is indeed worth a movie or more. He led a tumultuous life and despite all his genius, he was troubled and disturbed by various faculties of life. Critics did not acknowledge him, he was put to court due to his sexuality and his death remains a mystery.
The name is taken from Tchaikovosky’s most famous work ‘Swan Lake’ which is an extraordinary piece of music. Chen desires to make the film a visual treat and to create an amalgamation of all the arts through in the film. So we can definitely expect wonderful cinematography in Swan Song.
Moonstone Productions is producing the film and the shooting will commence next year. Shahar Stroh has written the screenplay. Chen’s previous English project Killing Me Softly was a failure and this is the first project of Moonstone and him in English together. Kaige has made films like Forever Enthralled, The Promise, Farewell My Concubine and Sacrifice. He is definitely one of the biggest filmmakers in China and with such a powerful story, he sure is going to make a change.
Swan Lake is going to be the most anticipated film for music enthusiasts and whoever is into classical music, they would know how wonderful a film could be made of Tchaikovsky’s life story. The film will be on floors by 2025.
