Randeep Hooda’s directorial debut, “Swatantra Veer Savarkar,” offers a glimpse into the life of freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, showcasing Hooda’s commitment to the project. Despite his dedication, the journey was fraught with challenges that tested his resolve.
The biopic, upon its release, received a mixed response from audiences and failed to meet expectations at the box office. In a candid podcast with Ranveer Allahbadia, Hooda revealed the struggles he faced during the film’s production, including a lack of support and financial constraints. To finance the project, Hooda resorted to selling his properties, highlighting the personal sacrifices he made for the film’s completion.
Hooda’s commitment extended beyond financial sacrifices; he underwent a significant physical transformation for his role, shedding weight to portray Savarkar authentically. However, the extreme weight loss regimen took a toll on his health, leading to sleep problems and fatigue during filming. Despite the challenges, “Swatantra Veer Savarkar” managed to garner Rs 11.35 crore in its first week, though its reception remained mixed throughout its theatrical run.
