“Yo Adrian! It’s me, Rocky!” The on-screen Italian Stallion (Rocky Balboa), Sylvester Stallone, has given an exciting update about his upcoming Rocky prequel project. The actor has yet to officially confirm whether the project will be a movie or a series. Stallone teased the idea of a Rocky prequel back in 2021. According to early rumours, the project may come out in the form of a TV series.
When asked about the status of his upcoming Rocky prequel on the latest episode of Inspire Me podcast, this is what Stallone said:
“The Rocky prequel is very near and dear to my heart. I wrote a few pages of it, and it just seems to write itself. Seeing Adrienne at 15, Rocky at 17, Paulie moving into a new neighborhood, Rocky’s your bad boy. It’s almost like Lady and the Tramp, but with real people. It’s going to be wonderful.”
Based on Stallone’s comments, it seems like the upcoming Rocky prequel could explore the protagonist’s high-school life and his budding love story with Adrian. We should also expect to see Adrian’s brother, Paulie, in the series. The series may go a bit deeper into Rocky and Paulie’s friendship, how the former fell into love with boxing, and how he ended up working as a collector for a mafia loan shark in Rocky (1976).
Stallone became a global sensation after the record-breaking success of the first Rocky film, which revolves around Rocky Balboa, a small-time Philadelphia boxer who gets a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the heavyweight championship against the undefeated Apollo Creed. Despite being a heavy underdog, Rocky trains relentlessly, gaining respect and admiration along the way. The climactic fight is a grueling battle of wills, with Rocky ultimately proving himself a worthy opponent, though he ultimately loses the match. Stay tuned for more updates.
