Entertainment business giant T-Series, which is doing business as a prominent music record label along with film production, is reportedly (via Variety) tapping a new market by making its foray into the OTT space. The reputed company is all set to create multiple series for streaming platforms in India. For effectuating its exciting new venture, it has also roped in several top-notch Indian directors.
While nothing much is currently known about the precise titles and their respective storylines, the series would be made across various genres including action thrillers, biopics, murder mysteries, and jailbreak dramas.
For making the series, the directors who have been signed up are big names like Hansal Mehta, Aanand L. Rai, Anubhav Sinha, Nikhil Advani, Sanjay Gupta, Suparn S. Varma, Bejoy Nambiar, Mikhil Musale, and Soumendra Padhi.
Out of these eminent filmmakers, Hansal Mehta, Nikhil Advani, Suparn S. Varma, and Bejoy Nambiar have already taken the plunge into the OTT world. Hansal Mehta is the man behind the cult web series ‘Scam 1992’, which is amongst the highest-rated shows in the world (IMDb). Moreover, Nikhil Advani too is known for creating the critically acclaimed show ‘Mumbai Diaries 26/11’ and the eagerly anticipated ‘Rocket Boys’ series.
Suparn Varma had directed the immensely popular spy thriller series ‘The Family Man’ alongside Raj & DK. While Bejoy Nambiar had helmed an episode of Netflix’s ‘Navarasa’ anthology. Besides, the creative and directorial talents of Aanand L. Rai (Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Raanjhanaa), Sanjay Gupta (Kaante, Kaabil), and Anubhav Sinha (Thappad, Article 15) need no introduction.
T-Series foraying into the ever-expanding OTT market seems to be a good business strategy. Firstly, because of the company’s understanding of the pulse of the Indian entertainment industry. And secondly, because of the expected implementation of 5G services and installation of optic fibers in various parts of the country. This move will increase pan-India internet penetration manifold, thereby making India a more conducive market for OTT players.
