Amazon Prime Video grabbed Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru and Jai Bhim. Needless to say, those Kollywood films were nothing short of a storm and grabbed immense love and support from the viewers. One common thing between them was a hard-hitting concept apart from belonging to Kollywood of course.
But now, after the fiasco of Maaran, Disney+Hotstar has finally brought something from Kollywood which is garnering universal applauds for the realistic and hard-hitting portrayal of truth without sugar-coating it in any manner.
Taanakkaran has immense potential to seep through the masses but all it needs is a little push. A film like Bheeshma Parvam and Lalitha Sundaram did not have any buzz amongst the masses but they still managed to trend at the top and we can thank Hindi dubbing for that. Unfortunately, even after making such a brilliant film, Taanakkaran is not close to the top trending title and dubbing indeed is a significant factor behind that.
Regardless, the film is a cop drama and fortunately, not a typical one. It revolves around the politics that go around while the recruitment happens in the police force. The film may appear brutal at times but it was intended nonetheless.
Long story short, Taanakkaran indeed has the potential to become the Tamil film of the year (only OTT), but makers need to fix one thing right for the mass appeal.
