Taapsee Pannu, who is riding high after her recent Filmfare Award for the ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ category has reportedly been approached to play the role of tennis star Sania Mirza’s biopic. Reportedly, producer Ronnie Screwvala has bought the rights for the film. Apparently, the makers wanted a young actress and have likely offered Taapsee the coveted role.
For the past few years, the in-form Taapsee Pannu has been delivering flawless performances with critically acclaimed films like Neeraj Pandey’s Baby (co-starring Akshay Kumar), Courtroom drama Pink (co-starring Amitabh Bachchan), Naam Shabana (Baby spinoff starring Manoj Bajpai), Anubhav Sinha’s Mulk (starring Late Rishi Kapoor), Spanish film ‘The Invisible Guest’s remake Badla (Directed by Sujoy Ghosh and co-starring Amitabh Bachchan) and the most recent award-winning Thappad (collaborating again with acclaimed filmmaker Anubhav Sinha).
Currently, Taapsee Pannu is preparing for her role in another biopic based on the captain of the women’s national cricket team ‘Mithali Raj’ titled ‘Shabaash Mithu’. This sports-drama film is in the pre-production stage and expected to release this year itself.
The news comes a few days after Taapsee’s Filmfare award win and also after ace shuttler Saina Nehwal’s biopic starring the effervescent Parineeti Chopra was released, which is getting critical appreciation from all quarters.
Taapsee is also in talks to work with Raj Kumar Hirani’s next film, which is also being touted as King Khan Shah Rukh’s comeback film after a long hiatus. Besides, the currently in-demand ‘Pink’ actress has many films under her kitty including Rashmi Rocket, Haseen Dilruba, Anurag Kashyap’s sci-fi film Do Baara and Looop Lapeta (Hindi remake of German film Run Lola Run).
We sincerely hope that Taapsee Pannu gives her nod for the biopic simply because she is a phenomenal actress and would be able to do justice to a well-known character and a national icon.
