Director Taika Waititi has joked that his Star Wars project may p*** people off. In other words, his journey into the ‘Galaxy far, far away’ may divide the fan base of the iconic space opera franchise.
Waititi got his Star Wars project way back in 2020. Three SW flicks were confirmed at this year’s Star Wars celebration event. However, Waititi’s film was not among the announcements, making fans wonder if his project would happen or not.
Despite all the negative rumours, Taika has confirmed that his Star Wars movie will happen. He discussed the project in a recent interview with Variety. This is what he said:
“It will be a Taika Waititi film. It’s gonna p*** people off.”
What Waititi said in his interview may turn out to be true. The director is known for using his eccentric sense of humour in his films. However, his style of comedy does not always sit well with viewers. Thor: Ragnarok worked well as it had a brilliant story. The director beautifully balanced the film’s humour and pathos. However, the same cannot be said about Love and Thunder. In fact, the fourth Thor instalment was a complete mess. He relied too heavily on silly jokes, adversely affecting the film’s seriousness along the way. In addition, Thor 4 wasted its cast, particularly Christian Bale. Waititi could have made Gorr a real deal in the MCU. But his love for his absurd sense of humour got the better of him, which led towards a significant reduction in Bale’s screen time in the film.
Also, we should not forget how controversial the Star Wars franchise is. Projects like The Mandalorian and Andor have helped fans in restoring their faith in the space opera franchise. On the other hand, the sequel trilogy still receives tons of hate to this day. It has become the nature of the franchise to get shattered and then get back up on its feet like nothing happened.
We do not have a release window for Taika Waititi’s Star Wars project. Stay tuned for more updates.
