We, at Binged, had informed our readers last year that ‘Takeshi’s Castle’, the most popular Japanese game show of yesteryears, is getting a reboot at Prime Video. Now, we have confirmed information on the new cast of the show, along with its tentative release date on Prime Video worldwide.
‘Takeshi’s Castle‘ will premiere on Prime Video in late April, in the one episode per week format. The ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ reboot will initially consist of eight episodes, where contestants will compete to overcome difficult obstacles, in order to reach the finish line and win the grand prize.
A total of more than 300 participants, selected from more than 1,000 applicants, will attempt to break through the various tricky games. Those games incude classics like Dragon God’s Pond (Ryujin-Ike), The Strait of Gibraltar, where players go over an unstable bridge while avoiding flying balls, Mushroom Trip (Kinoko-de-Pon), where challengers cling to a large spinning mushroom and must land on a small island floating on the surface of the water at the right time, and many more.
The ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ reboot will definitely include some new games too, but there’s not much information on those. The new version of Takeshi’s Castle has also been filmed at Midoriyama Studio, the same location as the original version.
As for the cast, original host Takeshi Kitano will return to host the reboot version too. Osamu Shitara (Star Wars Rebels) and Yuki Himura will act as the chief retainer and vassal of Takeshi’s Castle, respectively. Comedians Shinya Ueda, Naomi Watanabe, and Ennosuke Ichikawa IV will act as governors of three castles, while TV presenter Hayato Tani and Subaru Kimura (Gian in Doraemon) act as attack captains.
Javed Jaffrey, who presented the Hindi dubbed version of ‘Takeshi’s Castle’ in India, has expressed interest in dubbing for the reboot version too. But there’s no word on his involvement with the Prime Video reboot yet.
