As a result of the ongoing COVID-19 situation, Tamil actor Nepolean’s debut Hollywood movie ‘Devil’s Night: Dawn of the Nain Rouge’, will have a direct release on OTT instead of theatres. The film, which is a crime thriller, has been produced by Tel K Ganesan of Kyyba Films and is directed by Sam Logan Khaleghi. It will soon be available on Amazon Prime Video.
As per the producer Tel K Ganesan, the film is based on the legend behind Nain Rouge, a mythical creature famously known in Detroit, Michigan area. The story is about how a series of murders happen and when the police cannot decipher the happenings, they turn to a museum curator played by Napoleon. Interestingly, there is a Tamil connection to this English film.
Napoleon plays a museum curator in the film that also stars Jesi Jensen and Nathan Kane Mathers (brother of Eminem). Apart from his debut film Nepolean has also worked on two other Hollywood projects, Christmas Coupon and Trap City. He states, “I remember a time in Kollywood when every director would come for story narration and say: ‘Open panna, oru remote village sir’ (The first visuals will feature a remote village). They would then describe my character in the film, which would mostly be a rural guy. I would yearn to do sophisticated roles back then. Right now, that’s exactly what I’m doing.”
While he plays a sports agent in Christmas Coupon, he plays a bodyguard in Trap City. The actor, who hails from Tiruchi but has now relocated to the US for providing better facilities to his son who has muscular dystrophy, said, “The English accent was a challenge, but thankfully, I was able to pull it off”.
Other than Nepolean there is one other Tamil link in all the three English movies and that is their producer, Tel K Ganesan. He says, “Originally, we thought we will release in theatres, but we made this decision to release digitally due to the pandemic. With increasing eyes on OTT platforms, it’s a great way to keep interest levels high on your content.”
