Tamil film ‘Birthmark’ premiered in theatres on 23rd February, 2024. The film received average reviews from critics and audiences. Most people hailed the slow-burn plot and atmospheric buildup of the movie, but panned the lack of a satisfactory pay-off. Despite the average reviews, ‘Birthmark’ did poor business at the box office, sinking without a trace within the first few days.

‘Birthmark’ follows Lieutenant Daniel (Shabeer Kallarakal) and his wife Jenny (Mirnaa), who are on the cusp of parenthood. Daniel has just returned from a traumatic war-zone experience, and is adamant that Jenny give birth at an isolated birthing center, situated in the back of beyond. However, Jenny senses something sinister about the birthing center. More importantly, Daniel’s behavior seems more and more weird as the days go by.
Shabeer Kallarakkal plays Daniel in Birthmark. The actor had impressed one and all with his outing as Dancing Rose in Sarpatta Parambarai. Mirnaa, PR Varalakshmi, Indirajith, Porkodi, Deepthie, among others, form the rest of the cast. The film is written and directed by Vikram Sreedharan. He’s also produced the film, along with Sriram Sivaraman, under their joint banner, Sapiens Entertainment.
