After a long wait of more than two months, Marvel’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher are now streaming on the Disney Plus Hotstar from this morning. Fans of the shows must be aware that these shows began streaming on Disney Plus in the US and other regions from March 16 itself. They were earlier streaming on Netflix, but moved to Disney Plus, after Netflix’s licence for the Marvel shows expired.
One would think that after waiting for more than two months, Daredevil, Jessica Jones etc fans would be ecstatic when the shows finally arrived on Disney Plus Hotstar. Instead, there’s been nothing but outrage against Disney Plus Hotstar’s streaming of the beloved shows!
Why?
Let’s find out!
Marvel fans are up in arms against Disney Plus Hotstar for streaming Daredevil et al. only in English, and not dubbed in Hindi or other Indian languages. What has angered them even more is the fact that even after delaying the shows for over two months, Disney Plus Hotstar did not have the foresight to at least stream the show with Hindi, Telugu, Tamil etc dubs. “What was the point of delaying so much then”, they ask.
Ever since the shows began streaming on Disney Plus Hotstar this morning, the platform’s social media handles have been inundated with taunts, jibes and questions from angry Disney Plus Hotstar subscribers.
The thing that has really got their goat is that when Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Defenders and The Punisher were streaming on Netflix, they were available to watch in Hindi dubs. The difference between the two is clearly and starkly visible to OTT viewers.
If Disney Plus Hotstar doesn’t want to antagonise its loyal subscribers further, then the streamer better make Hindi and other language dubs for the Marvel shows available ASAP.
Already, with doubts of the IPL moving to Prime Video or SonyLIV; and HBO Max looming on the horizon, the future doesn’t look too easy for Disney Plus Hotstar. Better to leverage well those properties that will always be there’s!
