We at Binged had earlier informed our readers about stellar director Mahesh Bhatt stepping into the world of digital entertainment with his maiden web series. Now we bring you further details about the show, its title and streaming platform, along with its first teaser. Mahesh Bhatt’s debut show is titled ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’ and it will premiere on homegrown streaming platform, Voot Select. The show is a romantic drama, set in the backdrop of seventies Bollywood.
‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’ is created by Mahesh Bhatt, and written and directed by Pushpdeep Bhardwaj, who has earlier created the 2018 romantic drama Jalebi. The show is jointly produced by Jio Studios and Mukesh Bhatt’s production banner, Vishesh Films. The series stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Amala Paul and Amrita Puri as primary protagonists. It is Amala Paul’s Bollywood debut with ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’.
Tahir Raj Bhasin (Chhichhore) plays a struggling film director, Shankar, who gets entangled in an affair with Bollywood A-lister Aamna (Amala Paul), at the cost of his marriage to Anju (Amrita). The series portrays a complicated love triangle, said to be modelled on Mahesh Bhatt’s own life. Or rather, a certain time in his life. It is speculated that the top seventies Bollywood actress that the story of ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’ centres on is the late Parveen Babi.
Mahesh Bhatt had earlier made Arth, a film on his doomed love affair with Parveen Babi. Arth too was based on the aforementioned love story, a painfully stark retelling. Mahesh Bhatt’s first web series is along the same lines. Ranjish Hi Sahi had gone on the floors in February 2020, before the Coronavirus outbreak shut down the entertainment industry across the country. It was earlier named ‘Bebaaq’.
Ranjish Hi Sahi doesn’t have a release date on Voot Select yet. The teaser shows glimpses of Tahir Raj Bhasin, Amrita Puri and Amala Paul, and the dynamics between their characters. Zarina Wahab is also a part of the cast of ‘Ranjish Hi Sahi’.
