Jio Studios has just revealed the first teaser for ‘Mrs.’, the Hindi remake of Malayalam hit film ‘The Great Indian Kitchen’. The Hindi version of the film has Sanya Malhotra essaying the role made iconic by Nimisha Sajayan in the original Malayalam film.
‘Mrs.’ has notched the first feather in its cap by having its World Premiere at the prestigious Talinn Black Nights Film Festival (TallinnBNFF). The movie is scheduled to premiere at the festival on 17th November. It has also been selected under the Critics’ Pick Competition category at the festival.
Mrs. will then get a wider release in India soon. We still don’t know whether Jio Studios will release the film in the theatres or directly on streaming. The film company revealed the first teaser for Mrs. this morning, which is vibrant, colourful, and presents the Hindi remake of The Great Indian Kitchen in a totally different look.
Arati Kadav has directed Mrs., while Jeo Baby had helmed the original Malayalam film. The movie has been produced by Jio Studios, in association with Pammi and Harman of Baweja Studios, and co-produced by Smitha Baliga.
The original movie The Great Indian Kitchen is a tightly written narrative on male entitlement, patriarchy, unreasonable demands that a woman has to live up to, discrimination based on gender, and lots more, all set in the backdrop of copious amounts of food being cooked in a kitchen in Kerala. It is an eye-opening film, and we can only hope that its Hindi remake can live up to the original.
