After waiting for ten years, fans of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will finally get to watch a screen adaptation of their beloved young adult novels on December 20. The series will be available on Disney+ and will start with two episodes, followed by new episodes released weekly.
The first glimpse of the show’s characters is shown in a teaser. We can see Walker Scobell, Leah Sava Jeffries, and Aryan Simhadri as Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Grover Underwood. The teaser begins with Percy’s mother, Sally Jackson (voiced by Virginia Kull), saying that the stories about Greek gods and half-bloods are real. The teaser also gives us glimpses of Camp Half-Blood, Percy’s journey to Olympus, encounters with monsters, and Ares (played by Adam Copeland).
The first season of the show is based on the first book, “The Lightning Thief.” It follows the story of 12-year-old Percy, who discovers he’s a demigod and has special powers. However, he’s accused of stealing Zeus’ lightning bolt. With the help of his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy goes on a quest to find the bolt and bring balance to Olympus.
The cast includes Lin-Manuel Miranda, Megan Mullally, Toby Stephens, the late Lance Reddick, Jason Mantzoukas, Jay Duplass, Charlie Bushnell, Dior Goodjohn, Jessica Parker Kennedy, Olivea Morton, Suzanne Cryer, Timm Sharp, and Timothy Omundson.
