If one was asked to summarize the short teaser trailer for Netflix’s latest film ‘Andhaghaaram’ into just one word – “ominous” would be the perfect one to describe it. This Tamil supernatural thriller movie was written and directed by debutant director V Vignarajan and the teaser does him credit.
With a menacing background score, the trailer rushes through a series of short clips, without a single dialogue being uttered. The only sound made by a character at one point is when he seemingly shushes himself, twice, while another character (in the shot) next to him looks at him perplexed, making the scene both interesting and scary at the same time. The musical teaser has a feel of an Alfred Hitchcock film while being seen through the directing lenses of Quentin Tarantino.
The trailer doesn’t reveal much about the characters, but as mentioned earlier, the trailer has an extremely intimidating score with a montage of various characters shown in tensed, disturbed or disturbing situations. The teaser primarily shows the three main characters of the film – a blind conjuror, a fading cricketer and a depressed psychiatrist. Each character has their own struggle to face – the blind man is trying to survive, the disheartened sportsman is trying to fight his retirement and the psychiatrist is looking to reclaim his fame. All three find their lives intertwined in a web of trickery, fear and gloom which leads them down a path of oblivion.
The film will feature Arjun Das, Vinoth Kishan, Pooja Ramachandran, Misha Ghoshal, Jeeva Ravi, Rail Ravi and Mahendra Mullath in prominent roles. The movie is produced by Passion studios’s Sudhan Sundaram & Jayaram, A for Apple’s Priya Atlee and O2 Pictures’ K Poorna Chandra. Netflix will also release the film in Telugu language.
‘Andhaghaaram’ is set to premiere on Netflix on November 24th 2020. The teaser can be viewed down below. Beware of skin-crawling, spine chilling and hair raising while watching (not entirely joking either).
