Sankranthi is the biggest season for film releases in the Telugu film industry. It is natural for filmmakers to wait for this season and release their films. Films perform better than their actual worth in this season. The Telugu film industry which is severely battered due to the COVID-19 is waiting for the Sankranthi solace.
As many as half a dozen films are looking for Sankranthi. Some have already announced their arrival for the festive season while some will announce later this month after taking a look at the Christmas Box Office. Sai Tej’s Solo Brathuke So Better is lined up for Christmas. The filmmakers will be waiting with bated breath to see how the audience receives the film.
If the response has been poor, they will be caught between the Devil and the Deepsea. They can not afford to release the films in such a situation or can not get a price they would like from the OTT platforms which will naturally take advantage of the situation. To avoid such situations, some films are playing the waiting game without announcing their release dates but even they can not avoid the bargain of the OTTs. “We could not imagine the situation where we can not rely on Sankranthi. We are just praying for divine intervention at this stage. This is something we were never in and no one can say what is going to happen in the coming days. It is like the existence is at risk for many of us,” a filmmaker told us.
