Swiss former professional tennis player, Roger Federer dominated the sport in the early 21st century with his exceptional all-around game. Having won a record eight Wimbledon titles, Federer became the first player in 2018 to claim 20 Grand Slam men’s singles titles.
Not just that, he was ranked world No. 1 in singles by the Association of Tennis Professionals for 310 weeks, including a record of 237 consecutive weeks. Moreover, he finished as the year-end No. 1 five times. In front of a 17,500 sell-out crowd at the O2 Arena in London for the Laver Cup, Federer not only faced long-time professional rival Rafael Nadal, but also returned for the final match of his career.
Directed by Academy-award-winning director Asif Kapadia and Joe Sabia, the Amazon Studios documentary “Federer: Twelve Final Days”, is all set to explore the final twelve days of the legend’s career. Premiering exclusively on the platform on June 20, the feature-length documentary will include interviews with tennis icons Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray as well as footage of Federer and his family in the days before his exit from the sport.
The 65-second trailer promises his ‘tennis family’ an emotional dive into what the game meant to him and the other way around. For fans of the sport, the documentary seems to be a heartfelt tribute to the icon’s legacy.
