Kangana Ranaut‘s ambitious ‘Thalaivii‘ is all set for a pan-India, theatrical release on 10th September, Ganesh Chaturthi. Post the release date announcement a few days back, there had been no buzz regarding the film. With just two weeks to the release date, there was no news of a single song release, teaser promos or any activity for that matter. Besides a few posters, mainly featuring Kangana’s varied looks, there had been no promotions whatsoever. The makers were at the receiving end of heavy backlash from netizens regarding their lackadaisical approach.
However, it looks like the producers have now pulled up their socks and paid heed to the reactions from fans. There have suddenly been two big announcements since morning and it looks like the promotions are beginning in full swing. The first announcement that came earlier today was that the entire team would be part of a grand promotional event in Chennai on the 4th of September, to launch the much-hyped Bharatnatyam song from the movie. This announcement had fans going ga-ga and it felt like the makers are finally kicking off promotions in style.
The second announcement made just a while back is that of a song teaser. Nearly 4 months after the release of the film’s first song ‘Chali Chali’, comes the second one, ‘Teri Aankhon Mein’. With music by G.V. Prakash Kumar and lyrics penned by none other than Irshad Kamil, the song promo releases today in Tamil and Telugu versions as well, written by Madhan Karky and Sira Sri respectively.
With theatres reopening in Tamil Nadu and buzz that theaters in Maharashtra too, will open up by 1st September, this film has an edge over other theatrical releases till date, the biggest being Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bell Bottom’. With some aggressive marketing here-on, the film could certainly overtake the business done by ‘Bell Bottom’ and take credit for being the top theatre-reviver. ‘Thalaivii’ will still face stiff competition in Tamil Nadu though, from Vijay Sethupathi starrer ‘Laabam’, set to release in theatres just a day prior, on 9th September.
Directed by A L Vijay, ‘Thalaivii’, a biopic on late actress-turned-politician Jayalalithaa, is a multi-lingual film to be released simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. The film also stars Arvind Swamy as MGR, Madhoo and Bhagyashree in pivotal roles. We hope to see a lot more promotional activity in the coming days and wish team ‘Thalaivii’ all the very best for a smooth and successful release.
