Advait Chandan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ starring perfectionist Indian actor Aamir Khan was finally released in theatres on 11th August after a spate of delays. And as you already know, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is an official remake of Robert Zemeckis’ Oscar-winning movie ‘Forrest Gump’. While the Indian remake has received an insipid box-office response until now with rather polarized reviews from critics and audiences, the film has been duly noticed by the prestigious organization – Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, globally known for their coveted Oscar awards.
Earlier today, the official Twitter handle of the Academy had shared an exclusive clip featuring important snippets from both the parent film ‘Forrest Gump’ and its Hindi language Indian remake ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’. Not just that, The Academy went on to call ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ a faithful Indian adaptation (of ‘Forrest Gump’).

For the unversed, the 1994 film ‘Forrest Gump’ was nominated at the Oscars for a whopping thirteen categories and eventually bagged six Academy Awards. The winning categories were for the ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Actor’ (Tom Hanks), ‘Best Director’ (Robert Zemeckis), ‘Best Writing’ (Eric Roth), ‘Best Editing’, and ‘Best Visual Effects’.
Interestingly, ‘Forrest Gump’ currently holds a 71% critics score on reviews aggregation portal Rotten Tomatoes based on 106 reviews. On the other hand, the Indian adaptation ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is not far behind with a 65% score based on 23 reviews.
The parent film ‘Forrest Gump’ narrated the story of a kind-hearted man with subpar IQ and how he inadvertently becomes a part of multiple historical events and how he progresses in life through a simple-minded and uncomplicated approach. The Indian version has been directed by Advait Chandan and written by Atul Kulkarni. Besides Aamir Khan in the titular role, ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ also features Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya, Manav Vij, and Mona Singh in pivotal roles.
