First reactions to ‘The Acolyte’ Disney+ series have surfaced on social media. Fans have praised the upcoming Star Wars project for its stunning fight sequences, outstanding performances, and dark and layered story. The series’ cast and crew celebrated an exhilarating launch event on May 23 (Thursday). There, some lucky critics got the opportunity to watch the first two episodes of the show. The review embargo on the series has been lifted, meaning critics can share their opinions about the forthcoming Disney+ project.
The early reactions to ‘The Acolyte’ are highly positive, with particular praise towards the performances of Lee Jung-jae, Amandla Stenberg, and Carrie Anne-Moss. This is good news, considering the ongoing online hate campaign towards the show, launched by some of the franchise’s toxic fans.
Created by Leslie Headland, The Acolyte is set during the final days of the High Republic era, nearly 100 years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). The series will revolve around Jedi Master Sol (Jung-jae) and his team of Jedis and Padawans to stop a former Padawan learner turned dangerous warrior, Mae (Stenberg). Along the way, the group will also encounter some sinister forces. It will arrive on Disney+ Hotstar on June 4.

I’ve waited so long for #TheAcolyte, and I cannot believe how much it's living up to my expectations. I loved the first two eps! It's so exciting to see a new (well, old) era explored in live-action. Leslye Headland did a dynamite job fleshing out these characters. I'm obsessed! pic.twitter.com/9Ldlg6szt1

Star Wars: #TheAcolyte is a DREAM for fans of The High Republic era and a fresh experience for everyone else. 4 eps in and it’s taking its time layering in the dark mystery. RIVETING fight choreography and SUPERB performances from Amandla Stenberg and Lee Jung-jae. I’m diggin it. pic.twitter.com/I0IRm1ZdNt

#StarWars #TheAcolyte gives me Kill Bill vibes. Every episode left me wanting more, in a good way. We’ve seen so much about the fall of the Jedi but this show explores what the Jedi we’re like during peace time, which is quite fascinating. @AmandlaStenberg is outstanding! pic.twitter.com/67weNyvcdN

Star Wars: #TheAcolyte is filled with mystery and darkness that delves deep into new and diverse depths of the galaxy. I’ve seen 4 eps and dig the sinister story it’s steadily setting up. BIG potential in this era. Carrie-Anne Moss with a lightsaber doing Force-Fu is PERFECTION. pic.twitter.com/KRX44P9rcr

I’ve seen four episodes of #TheAcolyte and, thus far, it’s a *very* big winner. The cast of characters, the heavy emphasis on practical effects, the stunts, how they’re exploring what it means to be a Force-user and how the Jedi Order operates — it’s all working quite well for… pic.twitter.com/l8SVNTvSEG

Yeah, I think #TheAcolyte is going to do well with fans. Especially those who want an easy entry point into new Star Wars stories.
Ironic, given the massive volume of High Republic books/comics released in the last three years.
