Disney+’s highly anticipated ovation-receiving six-part series “Becoming Karl Lagerfeld” chronicles the making of one of the biggest names in the fashion industry: Karl Lagerfeld. The biographical show follows the rise of the icon through the world of 1970s Parisian high fashion.
Played by German-Spanish superstar Daniel Brühl, the story will depict how Lagerfeld fell in love with Jacques de Bascher, who inspired him to challenge himself and act upon his ambition to become the world’s most famous French fashion designer.
Taking place across Paris, Monaco, and Rome, the series also portrays the clan rivalries and ego battles of the high-end fashion world. The 90-second teaser sets the premise of a vibrant world of epic partying and decadence.
Based on the best-selling book by Raphaëlle Bacqué “Kaiser Karl”, the show highlights some of the biggest stars of the era, including Paloma Picasso, Loulou de la Falaise, and Andy Warhol. German actress Lisa Kreuzer, whose career includes the likes of the ‘Dark’ series, stars as Karl’s mother, Elisabeth Lagerfeld.
Offering a rarely-seen glimpse into the behind-the-scenes of fashion shows, the episodes promise to be characterized by catchy, upbeat music and colorful photomontages.
