Netflix has dropped the trailer for its upcoming limited German series ‘The Billion Dollar Code’ where two Germans sue Google for stealing their idea! Based on a true story and directed by Robert Thalheim, the four part series will premiere only on Netflix on 7th October, 2021.
The trailer begins with court scene where a man talks about making one of the most important inventions in the computer age in 1994, eleven years before Google did it in 2005. And the technology in discussion here is Google Earth which on observation was shockingly found to be absolutely identical to Terra Vision, the version created by two German friends Carsten and Juri.
Going into flashback it tells the story of how the idea of Terra Vision began in early 1990s in Berlin when an artist and a hacker with a love for computer programming joined hands. Their idea of being able to fly from outer space to any place on earth was not only fascinating but also revolutionary.
From pitching their ideas to big companies and bringing together a team to further work upon the idea that had never been done before resulted in Terra Vision and it soon garnered a lot of attention with everyone wanting to report about it.
On the other hand in Silicon Valley in 1995, Google was changing the world and Juri believed the same. Somehow Juri revealed certain things about Terra Vision to people from Google who took their idea and soon launched Google Earth.
Now 25 years later, these two German men are up against the global digital giant Google in court suing them for patent infringement. Maybe a little late but they are here now to tell their unknown story to the world.
‘The Billion Dollar Code’ in Netflix stars Seumas F. Sargent (‘Spy City’), Lukas Loughran (‘Zoo’, ‘Soundtrack’), Marius Ahrendt, Thomas Douglas and more. Oliver Ziegenbalg has written the series and also serves as its showrunner.
‘The Billion Dollar Code’ will release exclusively on Netflix on 7th October, 2021.
