‘The Boys’ College-Set Superhero Spin-Off Gets Series Order at Amazon

Amazon Studios has officially given a go-ahead to the much talked about spin-off series of the immensely popular superhero-genre parody show ‘The Boys’. Longtime collaborators Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters will serve as the series’ showrunners.

The yet untitled spin-off series revolves around America’s only college for young adult superheroes which is run by the evil Vought Corporation, that is known for founding the elite but corrupt superhero team – ‘The Seven’. The spin-off show is being described as as an irreverent, R-rated show that explores the lives of hormonal, competitive Supes as they put their physical, sexual, and moral boundaries to the test, competing for the best contracts in the best cities.

The spin-off series was announced around a year ago after the phenomenal streaming success of ‘The Boys’ second season which started streaming on the Amazon Prime Video platform from September 2020. ‘The Boys’ creator Erik Kripke had earlier said that the new show would center around the G-Men team from the comics.

Fans might already know that ‘The Boys’ is a satirical take on one of the most popular comic-book superheroes. Likewise, in the comics, G-Men team are portrayed as Vought’s most bankable and also the most popular team and is ostensibly a parody of Marvel’s X-Men and DC’s Doom Patrol.

While the filming wrap for the forthcoming third season of ‘The Boys’ was recently announced by the cast members, the show’s streaming date at Amazon Prime Video is yet to be announced. ‘The Boys’ had also received five Emmy nominations this year, which is usually uncommon for a superhero genre series.
