‘The Conjuring’ film series is one of the most popular and highly successful horror franchises in the cinematic world. Until now, there have been three films in the Conjuring main series, two ‘Nun’ films, and three ‘Annabelle’ films. Collectively, they have grossed around $2.1 billion at the box office globally. And now, horror movie buffs are eagerly waiting for the fourth instalment of ‘The Conjuring’ film series. ‘Conjuring 4’ has just got not one but two rather disappointing updates.
The first update is that the upcoming fourth Conjuring movie is also most likely going to be the last one. And the second one is that ‘The Conjuring 4’ has roped in Michael Chaves as the film’s director. Michael Chaves is not new to the Conjuring Universe as he had directed two of its films namely ‘The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It’ and ‘The Nun II’. These two films have got critics’ scores of 55% and 52%, respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.
So, in a way, it’s not such a great news for many fans who were previously speculating and hoping that the parent film’s helmer James Wan will once again don the director’s hat for ‘The Conjuring 4’ as well. Because the first Conjuring movie, which came out in the year 2013, is still considered to be the best one in the whole Conjuring franchise. It has achieved a cult status amongst horror aficionados and is regarded as a modern horror classic. ‘The Conjuring’ holds an impressive critics’ score of 86% on Rotten Tomatoes.
On the brighter side, the talented writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick had penned the script for ‘The Conjuring 4’ movie. His earlier works include the acclaimed 2009 horror thriller ‘Orphan’, and the two Conjuring sequels namely ‘The Conjuring 2’ and ‘The Conjuring 3: The Devil Made Me Do It’. Besides, he has also lent his writing skills for ‘Aquaman’, ‘Aquaman 2’, the Orphan prequel ‘Orphan: First Kill’.
Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who essayed the roles of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren in the Conjuring films, will reprise their roles for ‘The Conjuring 4’ as well. As of now, there is no solid info yet on the plot details and release date of ‘The Conjuring 4’. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on that.
